Sen. Kaiser's housing legislation without question is a deregulation bill. "Reform" is a word that to many carries an implication that it's a good thing. Maybe deregulation is your cup of tea, but perhaps not.

So sick of hearing about Tamales! Gress’s idea another bandaid when teachers and all educators need help. We have major water issues, housing affordability and homelessness are all huge. Please, let’s move on from Tamale’s. How about Rogers v Sanchez. Major first amendment issue.

I thought the tamale bill was interesting (and worth writing about even though the topic has become saturated in AZ political media) just because it exposes the fault lines of power right now in the Democratic party ... scrambles the typical partisan divides on policy ... and perhaps shows an avenue for future bipartisan breakthroughs. (Though I agree there are big issues that deserve more attention.) The Gress bill might not be an "end-all-be-all" for school funding, but it's at least a point where convergence can happen. I wish it were treated as a positive starting point for negotiations, rather than an idea for Dems to reject outright while waiting for a Dem legislative majority that might not happen. $10k raise would be a real difference maker for teachers (as a teacher I am definitely biased on this point.)

Really, tamales? We all buy homemade tamales for Christmas and/or special occasions. I haven’t seen a lot of arrests made for tamale makers and the health issues could certainly cause a problem for the state if someone got sick or god forbid dies. I have 3 teachers in my family, all working in the metro area and several teachers in rural Arizona. I was also a school board member in northern Arizona. If you gave them 10 grand over two years (people seem to forget that) after taxes and healthcare, pension it’s probably a 2-$300 a month increase that can postpone real legislation. The good news is we can debate these issues calmly without name calling. I enjoy your take. Keep up the good work! Go Suns! We can all agree on that.
